The EDGE Advanced Instructor Training Program

Is a program founded and established by EDGE Outdoors.

EDGE Outdoors is in Proud Partnership with S. Lake Tahoe area working with the industry’s best including current PSIA/AASI National Alpine and Snowboard Team members. EDGE scholars will receive training that will help them to prepare and to understand how to meet the assessment criteria to successfully complete a specific certification for Level II  and Level III as described in the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) Alpine Certification Standards AND American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) Snowboard Certification Standards.

PROGRAM HISTORY

EDGE Outdoors Founded and Established the Nation’s First Advanced Instructor Training Program for Black, Indigenous, Women of Color in Taos Ski Valley with Deb Armstrong

EDGE Outdoors, a pioneering force, has left an indelible mark on the nation's adventurous spirit by founding and establishing the country's inaugural Advanced Instructor Training Program or Black, Indigenous, Women of Color in Taos Ski Valley in partnership with Deb Armstrong. With a commitment to pushing the boundaries of outdoor instruction, EDGE Outdoors recognized the need for a comprehensive training initiative that goes beyond the conventional. This groundbreaking program is designed to cultivate a new generation of outdoor instructors equipped with advanced skills and knowledge, ensuring a higher standard of safety, expertise, and innovation in the realm of outdoor education. As a trailblazer in the field, Edge Outdoors continues to shape the landscape of outdoor instruction, setting a precedent for excellence and dedication to the pursuit of outdoor mastery.  

This program is now in Proud Partnership with Heavenly Ski Area and Vail Resorts Inc., and we are working with the industry’s best including current PSIA/AASI National Alpine and Snowboard Team members.

EDGE ADVANCED INSTRUCTOR TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP

Requirements and Details

1. Must be a Black, Indigenous , Woman of Color including Trans-Woman of Color, or Genderqueer under-represented in snow sports.

2.  Must currently live in the United States and be a citizen, permanent resident, or DACA of the United States of America. 

3. Must be PSIA/AASI Level 1 or 2 certified and/or have strong personal motivation to lead and teach alpine skiing or snowboarding.
4. Have taught alpine skiing or snowboarding in the last two seasons or have strong personal motivation to lead and teach alpine skiing or snowboarding.

5. Must be COVID19 vaccinated.

EDGE Advanced Instructor Training Scholarship details:

1) 3-Day Advanced PSIA/AASI training that will include Movement Analysis.

  • Training Dates: February Wednesday 07, 2024 - February Friday 9, 2024.

    *Arrival February Wednesday 06, 2024

    *Departure February Saturday 10, 2024

2) Recipients will receive:

  • Travel stipend based on need

  • Food stipend

  • Shared Lodging

* Not provided: Meals, airport transportation

3) Rental gear available or you can bring your own gear; must wear a helmet.

*Scholarships will not be rolled over to following season.
